It also means it’s a letter that can look cool when turned into a stylish design, but that might be a challenge. If you want to learn how to draw a cool letter G, you’ve come to the right place!
This guide has six steps to show you how to draw this unique letter in a really beautiful style. We also show you how to decorate it and add color to your artwork.
You also have the opportunity to add your own ideas and touches to the drawing, so there’s plenty to do! So let’s move on to the first step of the guide.
How to Draw A Fancy Letter G
Step 1
Whenever we transform a letter into a fancy style, we draw a regular version with a pencil first. We’ll also do this for simpler letters like O, but it’s particularly useful for more complicated ones like G. Ideally, it uses a lighter-colored pen.
You can then write G in the style you would normally. It doesn’t have to be perfect or super neat, as it’s there to guide you.
Then you can draw the fancy letter with a darker colored pencil or pen. Now we can take the first step, and it can be harder than it seems.
The letter is divided into two sections; the first line forms the top half. We recommend that you follow the reference image closely when drawing.
The line we draw is a curved spiral shape that starts wide at the base and narrows slightly toward the top.
That might not seem like much, but you’ll soon see how it all works. Now we can add this section to the next step of the guide.
Step 2
In this second step. We finish the outline for the top curl of this letter G. This step might be just as tricky as the first step, so it’s another step you should take slowly.
We’ll start near the bottom of the line from step 1, and this will initially have a curved vertical corner. So it curves sharper the closer you get to the center.
Then we curl up and closer to the first line until it wraps around the center of the curl at the top of this section, converging into a pointed tip.
It may sound quite complicated, but if you follow the steps carefully, you’ll see it’s not difficult. Next, we’ll draw the bottom part of the letter, which is easier, so let’s move on when you’re done.
Step 3
The third step of your awesome letter G will be a little less complicated, but there’s a lot to add, so we’ll still take it slow. We’ll start with the slightly curved vertical line near the middle of the letter.
A line is attached to it, forming a pointed tip. So we have a slightly curved line that extends to the right and ends with another pointed tip.
This pointed tip falls off quite sharply with another slightly curved line. The deeper you go, the more it will steer to the left.
As you can see in the reference, it slowly begins to curl up to form a kind of tail hanging down from the letter. This tail has a sharp tip and then curls back up.
Eventually, it should meet to fill the last gap left by the previous steps. This step may seem very complicated, but the key is to take it slow.
If you drew a rough pencil G shape, it would have been easier to get to this point! We no longer need it, so you can delete it once you’ve used it. Now that the outline is complete, the next step is to focus on the interior details.
Step 4
In this step and the next, we will add some details and flourishes to the design. For now, let’s start by adding some swirling lines to two of the pointed tips of the letter.
If you like the look, add more of these spirals! Then we added a pattern to the letters.
For our version, we decided to draw a wavy and curved pattern throughout the interior. This is great, but you can add any other pattern you like.
Filling the letter with small shapes like stars or circles looks cool. There’s no wrong way to decorate letters, so get creative and see what happens.
You may even surprise yourself if you let this happen, so who knows what you might end up with! Next, we’ll add some minor details to the outside of the design.
Step 5
Before we paint your design in the last step, let’s add some simple details around the letter. These may be simple, but they will make a world of difference!
You’ll notice that we’ve drawn some thick curved lines around the outline. We kept them minimal, but you can add more if you like how they look.
Then we drew a series of small dots around the letter. This is another simple but effective detail to add, and you can change the size and placement of the stitches.
In the middle of the letter, we added a simple little flower. This is such a cute detail; if you like it, you should add more.
This is how we decided to decorate the letter, but you can surround it with other details and choices you like. We have a few more ideas you could use for the detailing. These will be saved until after the last step, so be sure to read on for these tips! For now, let’s focus on coloring your drawing.
Step 6
You have many colors to choose from for your awesome letter G. In our example, we show you one of the many ways you can color your letter.
We chose a nice calming blue color that gives this image a comfortable feel. While it looks great, you may have a different color that you prefer.
You could also stick with the G theme and use a green color for the letter instead. Or you could make it in a classy gray color.
These are just a few suggestions, but you can choose as many colors as you like. You don’t even have to stick to just one color.
You could use several for interiors to add a pop of color! It might be fun to work with other colors outside of design.
These could depend on all the details you added around the letter, so the possibilities are many! Before we close this guide, let’s review a few more ideas.
